Robert Saumont

Who they were

Robert Saumont was a layman born at Oissel on 18 January 1919 and baptised conditionally on 17 May; taken prisoner and sent in 1940 to Stalag VI G at Cologne, he drew close from 1942 to the Scout groups there and became one of their leaders, was declared a transformed prisoner on 28 August 1943 and made his Scout promise on 16 January 1944. After several arrests he died at Halberstadt on 9 April 1945, aged 26. He was beatified on 13 December 2025 by Pope Leo XIV.
