Rogatus of Carthage

Who they were

Commemoration of the holy martyrs Liberatus, abbot, Boniface, deacon, Servus and Rusticus, subdeacons, Rogatus and Septimus, monks, and the boy Maximus: at Carthage, in present-day Tunisia, during the persecution by the Vandals under the Arian king Huneric, they were subjected to cruel tortures for having confessed the Catholic faith and defended the oneness of baptism; killed by blows of oars to the head while they were nailed to planks on which an attempt had been made to burn them, they completed the course of their admirable struggle, receiving from the Lord the crown of martyrdom.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 2 July as a monk who was tortured and killed at Carthage under the Arian king Huneric for confessing the Catholic faith.
