Kotlarz blessed the workers protesting at Radom in June 1976 and died on 18 August 1976 after repeated beatings by the security services; Bishop Edward Materski said in 2007 that he had been murdered.

Why that counted as sanctity
His beatification process was opened in the diocese of Radom in 2018, with Fr Edward Poniewierski as postulator, and the first session was held in Radom cathedral.
