Who they were
Rupert, said to be of Merovingian blood, was Bishop of Worms, known for simplicity, prudence, fear of God, love of truth and far-seeing charity. Duke Theodo of Bavaria called him to revive and spread the faith in a land only superficially Christian.
He built the first church in Salzburg, St Peter's, and founded churches and monasteries, becoming the first Bishop of Salzburg and apostle of Bavaria and Carinthia. He died at Salzburg on Easter Sunday, 27 March 718.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
