Saint Amandus
7th-century high ranked Roman-Catholic functionary, saint after his death

Who they were
Amandus, probably of noble birth near Nantes, fled home at twenty to become a monk near Tours, then lived fifteen years as a recluse at Bourges on bread and water. At thirty-three he was consecrated a missionary bishop.
He evangelised Ghent and all Flanders through persecution and hardship, founding monasteries at Ghent, the first monuments of the faith in Belgium. He died in his monastery of Elnon at the age of ninety.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
One of the great apostles of Flanders.
