Saint Bartholomew the Younger

Who they were

In the monastery of Grottaferrata near Frascati, close to Rome, Saint Bartholomew, abbot, who, born in Calabria, was a companion of Saint Nilus, whose Life he would later write, and was at his side when, already close to death, Nilus founded in the territory of Frascati a monastery organised according to the ascetic discipline of the Eastern Fathers, which Bartholomew consolidated during his rule, making it a school of learning and art.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 11 November as an abbot of Grottaferrata, companion and biographer of Saint Nilus, who made the monastery a school of learning and art.
