Saint Blane

Who they were

Blane, born on the island of Bute and nephew of St Cathan, was educated in Ireland under Sts Comgall and Kenneth, became a monk and went as a bishop among the Picts.

His monastery became the site of Dunblane Cathedral. He died in 590 and was buried at Kingarth on Bute; devotion to him was popular in Scotland from early times.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
