Saint Colette
15th c. French abbess: founded Colettine Poor Clares
Feast: 6 March (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Nicolette Boylet was born at Corbie, France, on 13 January 1381, a gift to a mother of sixty; her father was a carpenter at a Benedictine abbey. She felt God's call very early and had experiences of union with him.
After three years of very austere life enclosed in a small house beside a church, she professed the Rule of St Francis and brought many monasteries of Poor Clares back to their original way of life, restoring above all the spirit of poverty and penance.
