Who they were
At Grenoble in Burgundy, in present-day France, Saint Ferjus, bishop and martyr, whom wicked assassins beat to death with clubs while he was preaching to the people.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 12 January as a bishop of Grenoble clubbed to death while preaching.
