Who they were
Germaine Cousin was born at Pibrac near Toulouse in 1570 with a deformity. When her mother died, her father remarried and rejected her, denying her education and a decent life, sending her to tend the flock and sleep in the sheepfold.
From childhood a life of servitude and illness, she bore every trial with a strong heart and joyful spirit, and went to the village church whenever she could, growing in devotion.
