Who they were
Malachy O'Morgair, born at Armagh in 1094, was ordained in 1119 and studied at Lismore. He became Abbot of Bangor, Bishop of Connor and in 1132, reluctantly, Archbishop of Armagh; St Bernard praised his zeal.
He brought the Cistercians to Ireland at Mellifont. On a second journey to Rome in 1148 he fell ill at Clairvaux and died in St Bernard's arms on 2 November. Many miracles are recorded of him.
