Saint Nicomedes

Who they were

Nicomedes is without doubt a martyr of the Roman Church, buried in a catacomb on the Via Nomentana near the city gate; seventh-century pilgrims' guides mention his grave, Pope Adrian I restored the church over it, and a fifth-century titular church in Rome was dedicated to him. Nothing is known of the circumstances of his death; legends make him a priest martyred either at the end of the first century or under Maximian.
