Saint Nikon the Metanoeite

Who they were

At Sparta in the Peloponnese in Greece, Saint Nikon, monk, who, after leading the cenobitic and eremitic life in Asia, worked with evangelical zeal to bring Christian ways back to the island of Crete, freed from the yoke of the Saracens, and then travelled through Greece preaching penance, until he died in the monastery of Sparta that he had founded.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 26 November as a monk who re-evangelised Crete and preached penance through Greece.
