Saint Tiburtius

Who they were

According to the legend of St Sebastian, Tiburtius was the only son of Chromatius, prefect of Rome, who was converted; Tiburtius was baptised with Sebastian as his godfather. In Diocletian's persecution he hid in his father's house, was betrayed, and confessed his faith before the prefect. He was beheaded at the third milestone of the Via Labicana, at the place called 'the two laurels', around 286.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: Tiburtius has been honoured as a martyr since the early centuries. His legend says he walked unharmed over burning coals; this was never formally examined.

Why that counted as sanctity

Tiburtius, a prefect's son, confessed Christ when betrayed and died for Him.
