Who they were
Salvador Lara Puente was born at Berlín, Durango, on 13 August 1905. Tall and strong, a keen horseman, devoted to his widowed mother, he worked for a mining company and was an active member of the Mexican Catholic Youth Association.
When soldiers came to arrest him with two companions, he answered to his name, 'Here I am,' and walked to his death smiling. He was one of the 25 martyrs of the Mexican persecution, led by St Cristóbal Magallanes, most of them priests; he was one of three young laymen among them killed for exercising their ministry.
