Known as the 'missionary of justice and peace', he founded the Colégio de Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho in 1853 and the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Good Counsel, and led peacemaking and disarmament efforts in Bom Conselho.

Why that counted as sanctity
Bishop Agnaldo Temóteo da Silveira of Garanhuns opened the canonical inquiry into his cause on 31 August 2024, at a Mass in the chapel of the mother house at Bom Conselho where he is buried, recognising him as a Servant of God.
