Bishop Gílio Felício of Bagé petitioned the Congregation for the Causes of Saints on 1 February 2017 and the nihil obstat was granted on 24 April 2017 (prot. 3319-1/17, signed by Cardinal Angelo Amato), so he may be called Servant of God; Bishop Cleonir Paulo Dalbosco named the diocesan commission for the cause on 16 August 2019.
