Who they were
Sergius, of a family from Antioch, was educated in Sicily and ordained by St Leo II. He was chosen pope in 687 by clergy and people, setting aside two rival candidates.
He baptised King Caedwalla of Wessex, restored St Wilfrid to his see and consecrated St Willibrord as bishop for the Frisians. He refused to sign the decrees of the Trullan Council. He died on 8 September 701.

The Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe how he came to be honoured as a saint.
