Who they were
At Homs in Syria, commemoration of Saint Silvanus, bishop, who, after guiding that Church for forty years, was at last, under the emperor Maximinus, thrown to the beasts together with the deacon Luke and the lector Mocius, and received the palm of martyrdom.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 6 February as a bishop of Homs thrown to the beasts under Maximinus after forty years leading that Church.
