Who they were
Simon Hwang Il-gwang was one of the martyrs of Korea. The list of the Korean martyrs published by the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints records that he was killed at Hongju on 30 January 1802, at the age of 45; he was beatified on 16 August 2014 by Pope Francis.
