Simon the Zealot

Who they were

Simon, called 'the Zealot' or 'the Cananean' by the evangelists, is named tenth among the apostles, just before Jude Thaddeus. Little else is certain: some identify him with Simon, a cousin of the Lord.

By tradition he met Jude in Persia, preached with him there, and died a martyr alongside him.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: Simon has been honoured as an apostle and martyr since the earliest Church. He shares his feast with St Jude on 28 October.

Why that counted as sanctity

Simon, one of the least known of the Twelve, followed Christ from the beginning and, by the Church's tradition, gave his life for Him far from home.
