Who they were
At Cape Misenum in Campania, Saint Sossius, deacon and martyr, who, as Pope Saint Symmachus reports, wishing to save his bishop from death, instead found death together with him, obtaining equal glory at an equal price.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 23 September as a deacon of Misenum who died a martyr alongside his bishop.
