Who they were
In Africa, commemoration of Saint Rutilius, martyr, who, after escaping persecution by moving from place to place and sometimes avoiding dangers even with money, was one day unexpectedly arrested and handed over to the governor, subjected to many tortures and, finally placed on the pyre, was crowned with glorious martyrdom.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 2 August as an African martyr who, after long evading persecution, was arrested and burnt.
