Who they were
Frederick of Lorraine, son of the Duke of Lower Lorraine, was made chancellor of the Roman Church by his cousin St Leo IX and went on the embassy to Constantinople in 1054. He became a monk and then Abbot of Monte Cassino.
Elected pope in 1057, he carried on the reform of the Church. He died at Florence on 29 March 1058, urging the cardinals to wait for Hildebrand's return before electing his successor.

The Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe how he came to be honoured as a saint.
