Szymon of Lipnica

Who they were
Szymon was born at Lipnica Murowana in southern Poland around 1435–1440 to parents of modest means who gave him a sound Christian upbringing and education. He grew up pious, responsible, prayerful and tenderly devoted to the Mother of God.
In 1457, drawn by the Franciscan ideal and the example of the newly canonised St Bernardine of Siena, he gave up a promising future. A Friar Minor and priest, he was outstanding for his preaching and devotion to the Name of Jesus, and moved by charity he cared for the sick.
