Who they were
Teresa Verzeri was born in Bergamo on 31 July 1801, eldest of seven children of Antonio Verzeri and Countess Elena Pedrocca-Grumelli; her brother Girolamo became Bishop of Brescia.
In an age of upheaval, revolution, persecution of the Church and Jansenism, she founded the Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
