Who they were
Teresa Manganiello was born at Montefusco, near Benevento, on 1 January 1849, the eleventh child of a farming family, and a farm worker herself. Though unlettered, she showed great maturity of mind; at twelve she made a private vow of virginity.
She joined the Franciscan Third Order on 15 May 1870 and gave her short life to prayer, penance and helping the needy. She died on 4 November 1876, not yet 27.
