Théodore Guérin
Catholic saint and nun from France (1798-1856)

Who they were
Anne-Thérèse Guérin was born at Étables, France, on 2 October 1798 and at her First Communion, aged ten, told her parish priest she wanted to become a nun. Her father, a sailor in Napoleon's navy, was murdered by bandits on his way home. An illness later left her able to eat only bland food for the rest of her life.
As Mother Théodore, born in France, she founded the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in America and, amid enormous difficulties and always trusting in Providence, cared mercifully for the young community there.
