Theodotus of Ancyra

Who they were

Theodotus, a married innkeeper of Ancyra, was zealous in his faith and charity; in the persecution of about 303 he brought sinners to repentance and strengthened the wavering. His inn became a refuge for Christians, a hospital and a place of worship.

He rescued and buried the bodies of seven virgin martyrs who had been drowned, was arrested for it, and after many sufferings was put to death by the sword. He is patron of innkeepers.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

An innkeeper who made his house a refuge for persecuted Christians.
