Who they were
Theodulf, a Goth born in Spain, was, after Alcuin, the most learned man at Charlemagne's court. Made Bishop of Orléans about 798, he reformed clergy and people and encouraged schools.
He wrote poetry and theology, including a defence of the Filioque. He died at Angers on 18 December 821.

The Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe how he came to be honoured as a saint.
