Theodulus of Caesarea

Who they were

At Caesarea in Palestine, the holy martyrs Elias, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Samuel and Daniel: Christians of Egypt who, for having of their own accord cared for the confessors of the faith condemned to the mines in Cilicia, were arrested and, by the governor Firmilian under the emperor Galerius Maximian, were cruelly tortured and finally put to the sword. After them the crown of martyrdom was received also by Pamphilus, priest, Valens, deacon of Jerusalem, and Paul, a native of the city of Jamnia, who had already spent two years in prison, and also by Porphyry, servant of Pamphilus, Seleucus of Cappadocia, of high rank in the army, Theodulus, an elderly servant of the governor Firmilian, and finally Julian of Cappadocia, who, returning just at that moment from a journey, after kissing the bodies of the martyrs, revealed himself as a Christian and by order of the governor was burned over a slow fire.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 16 February as an elderly servant of the governor Firmilian martyred at Caesarea.
