Who they were
Thomas de Cantilupe, of an illustrious family, studied at Oxford and Paris, became chancellor of Oxford and, in 1265, chancellor of England, renowned for wisdom and fairness.
As a pastor he was a model of holiness and charity, and in 1275 became Bishop of Hereford. He died at Orvieto on 25 August 1282; many miracles followed at his shrine.
