Tomás Ramírez Caba

Who they were

Born at Chajul on 30 December 1934, he married Manuela Anaj and, after her death, Rosa Caba, and was chief sacristan of Chajul and of the parish house; he was killed in the parish of San Gaspar there on 6 September 1980. Pope Francis beatified him with José María Gran Cirera and his nine companions on 23 April 2021.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

The decree on martyrdom records that he was killed at once for refusing to leave the church to the soldiers to damage and burn.
