Who they were
Marcello Maruzzo was born at Lapio, near Vicenza, on 23 July 1929, one of eight children, with a twin brother, Daniele, who shared his studies and vocation. In 1946 both took the Franciscan habit, as Tullio and Lucio.
As a missionary in Guatemala, at Puerto Barrios, Entre Ríos and Morales, he was deeply committed to the poor and to the fight against illiteracy, which angered the death squads. He was killed in hatred of the faith in 1981, during the persecution of a Church working for justice and peace.
