Ubald

Who they were
Ubald was born of noble parents at Gubbio in Umbria early in the twelfth century. Orphaned young, he was educated by the cathedral prior and became a canon regular, then prior. He gave his rich inheritance to the poor and to the restoration of monasteries, and introduced a stricter rule among his canons.
He refused several bishoprics, but when the see of Gubbio fell vacant and he was sent to Pope Honorius II to ask for a bishop, the Pope consecrated him and sent him back as bishop. He was a true father to his people, and died at Gubbio at Pentecost 1168.
The miracles
Many miracles were reported in his life and after his death; the details examined for his canonisation are not given in the sources we have used. His body was found incorrupt.
Why that counted as sanctity
Ubald gave everything to the poor and to God's service, and was a gentle shepherd to his city.
