Brother of the Christian Schools, martyr of the persecution in Spain
Who they were
A Brother of the Christian Schools, in religion Valerio Bernardo and in the world Marciano, born in 1909 at Santa María de Porquera de los Infantes in the diocese of Burgos and professed in 1934; he was diligent in his work as religious and teacher and known for his kindness, humility and docility. He was one of seven Brothers of the Christian Schools arrested at Almería on 22 July 1936; three of them, including him, were shot at Tabernas on the night between 30 and 31 August 1936 and their bodies thrown into a well. He was beatified on 10 October 1993 by John Paul II, among Diego Ventaja Milán and his companions, martyrs of Almería.
