Valerius of Onhaye

Who they were

At Onhaye in Hainaut, in present-day Belgium, Saint Valerius, priest, who, tradition says, was killed with an oar while crossing the Meuse by a nephew of his, a priest whose way of life he had rebuked.

The miracles

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

Why that counted as sanctity

The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 23 June as a priest at Onhaye who, tradition says, was killed with an oar on the Meuse by a nephew whose way of life he had rebuked.
