Who they were
Vicelinus, orphaned young, studied at Paderborn and taught at Bremen. Ordained by St Norbert, he was sent to the Wends and then worked among the people of Holstein, founding the monastery of Neumünster.
He became Bishop of Oldenburg and is called the apostle of Holstein. He died on 12 December 1154.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
