Who they were
At Nagasaki in Japan, Blessed Bartholomew Gutiérrez, priest of the Order of Hermits of Saint Augustine, and five companions, martyrs, who out of hatred of the Christian faith were first plunged into boiling sulphurous waters and then burned at the stake. Among those named is Blessed Vicente de Santo António, priest of the Order of Hermits of Saint Augustine.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 3 September among the martyrs of Nagasaki plunged into boiling sulphurous waters and then burned out of hatred of the faith.
