Vicente Nicasio Renuncio Toribio

Who they were

Vicente Nicasio Renuncio Toribio was born at Villayuda, near Burgos, on 11 September 1876, professed in 1895 and was ordained priest in 1901. He gave himself to missionary work and to the training of the students of the minor seminary and was rector of the shrine of Perpetual Help in Madrid; after nearly two months in prison he was killed on 7 November 1936, and Pope Francis beatified him on 22 October 2022.

As a martyr he was raised to the altars without a miracle.

Why that counted as sanctity

As he was taken from his cell he was heard to cry out that he was laying down his life for his brothers in Spain.
