Who they were
Victor Dillard was a Jesuit priest born at Blois on 24 December 1897 and baptised on 2 January; a volunteer in the First World War, he entered the Society of Jesus in November 1919 and was ordained for it on 20 June 1931, continuing his theology alongside studies in political science in Austria, the United Kingdom and Germany and teaching in several colleges. A captain of artillery in 1939 and 1940, he was captured and imprisoned at Mailly, and while being moved to Germany he managed to jump from the train and reach Vichy, where he was able to continue his ministry. He was beatified on 13 December 2025 by Pope Leo XIV.
