Victorinus of Pettau
3rd century Christian ecclesiastical writer
Feast: 2 November (not on the universal Roman calendar; kept in the Roman Martyrology or local calendars)
Who they were
Victorinus was Bishop of Pettau (Poetovio) on the Drave, in what is now Styria, and an ecclesiastical writer who flourished about 270; he probably died a martyr in 303 under Diocletian. The Roman Martyrology lists him on 2 November.
St. Jerome gives him an honourable place among Church writers and says he wrote commentaries on many books of Scripture and treatises against the heresies of his time. Almost all are lost apart from extracts on Genesis and the Apocalypse. He shared the millenarian views of many of his contemporaries.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
An early bishop and biblical commentator who probably died a martyr under Diocletian.
