Who they were
Vincenzo Grossi was born on 9 March 1845 near Cremona in northern Italy. A diocesan priest, he was a parish priest for 44 years, and founded the Daughters of the Oratory to work with parish priests in educating girls in country villages and on the edges of towns. He died on 7 November 1917.
The miracles
A little girl — Cremona, Italy — 1990
A little girl was healed of a severe congenital anaemia, congenital dyserythropoietic anaemia type II, in which the body cannot make healthy red blood cells. On 20 November 2014 the Vatican's medical board found the healing scientifically inexplicable.
Two earlier healings, one on 25 December 1945 and one on 4 July 1949, were examined for his beatification.
Why that counted as sanctity
The case of a little girl was examined by the Church's doctors and theologians and approved as a miracle on 5 May 2015, opening the way to canonisation. Canonisation followed on 18 October 2015 by Francis.
