Who they were
At Salzburg in Bavaria, in present-day Austria, Saint Vital, bishop, who, originally from Ireland, was a disciple of Saint Rupert, his companion in travels and imitator of his labours and vigils; chosen by him as his successor, he converted the people of the Pinzgau to faith in Christ.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 20 October as a bishop of Salzburg, disciple and successor of Saint Rupert, who converted the Pinzgau.
