Who they were
Vitalian, of Segni, was elected pope in 657. He worked to restore relations with Constantinople and to settle the Monothelite controversy.
He cared for the Church in England, promising King Oswy a bishop after Wighard died in Rome. He died on 27 January 672 and was buried at St Peter's.

The Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe how he came to be honoured as a saint.
