Vivian Uchechi Ogu
Nigerian teenage laywoman killed defending her chastity
Who they were
She was a 14-year-old who had spoken on purity at her parish hours before armed robbers attacked her home and killed her when she resisted them.
The miracles
No miracle has been approved. The cause is at its first stage.
Why that counted as sanctity
Archbishop Augustine Obiora Akubeze of Benin City issued the edict and declared her a Servant of God in October 2023, and the tribunal for the diocesan inquiry into her cause, pursued as a martyrdom (in defensum castitatis), opened on 21 May 2024.
The cause
The cause continues. No postulation address is published here yet. Favours received through this person’s intercession, and offers of help, are best sent to the religious order or congregation they belonged to, or to the diocese where the cause was opened; either will pass them to the postulation.
