Who they were
Widukind, a Westphalian noble, led the Saxons' long struggle against Charlemagne for their independence and pagan religion.
In the end he was baptised with many companions at Attigny. There is no further credible information about him.

The Catholic Encyclopedia does not describe his veneration.
Why that counted as sanctity
A pagan warrior chief who became a Christian.
