Wigbert
West Saxon saint

Who they were
Wigbert, an English monk older than St Boniface, was called by him to Germany about 734 and made Abbot of Hersfeld, where St Sturmi, first Abbot of Fulda, was among his pupils. About 737 he was moved to Ohrdruf in Thuringia, and later returned to Hersfeld.
His life praises his purity, zeal for souls, charity, knowledge of the Bible and skill in teaching. He died about 746 and is in the Roman Martyrology.
The miracles
There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.

A teacher-abbot who helped St Boniface plant the Church.
