Who they were
Near Córdoba in Andalusia in Spain, the commemoration of Saint Witesind, martyr, who out of fear of the Moors abandoned the Christian faith, but then, refusing to practise their worship in public, was killed in hatred of the Christian faith.

There was never a formal cause: he has been honoured as a saint since before the Church's formal processes began.
Why that counted as sanctity
The Roman Martyrology remembers him on 15 May as a martyr near Córdoba who, having given way out of fear of the Moors, refused to practise their worship in public and was killed in hatred of the Christian faith.
