Who they were
Ana de Lobera y Torres was born in Spain on 25 November 1545. As Anne of Jesus she became a Discalced Carmelite and one of St Teresa of Ávila's closest companions in the reform of the Carmel; St John of the Cross dedicated his Spiritual Canticle to her.
She carried St Teresa's reform beyond Spain, founding Carmels in France (Paris 1604, Pontoise and Dijon 1605) and in what is now Belgium (Brussels 1607, Louvain and Mons 1608). She died in Brussels on 4 March 1621.
The miracles
A miracle was approved by Pope Francis for her beatification. Its details are not given in the sources we found.
Pope Francis beatified her himself, at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels during his visit to Belgium. One more approved miracle is needed for canonisation.
Why that counted as sanctity
The case of a person was examined by the Church's doctors and theologians and approved as a miracle on 14 December 2023, opening the way to beatification. Beatification followed on 29 September 2024 by Francis.
